You awake suddenly. The shock means you inhale a harsh gulp of cool air which chills you to the bone. Sitting yourself up, you blink rapidly attempting to adjust to the new dark surroundings, moon light reflects off a river below you. Then the faint rustling of vegetation begins, you hope it is just a squirrel. Then to build tension a string of thunder rattles the sky above, with large lightning bolts briefly illuminating your immediate surroundings. You finally see you’re on a lovely new bench, behind you stumps and ferns stick architecturally out the ground, your eyes then return to the moonlit river with the view framed beautifully by mature Alder and Willow trees. You now know for sure; you are not in Mayfield Park.
Louder this time, the lightning strikes even closer. Ears ringing you decide to head up brick steps the brief flash of light exposed. Treading carefully, you notice inscriptions on the bricks, B E S W I C K. The previous rustling gets louder, it turns quickly into footsteps, a witch’s cackle, the groan of a zombie and the obvious ‘Bello kebin’ of a minion.
It is now colder than ever, you turn to run up the path, but you thud into something or… someone! Adrenalin pumping, you look up and your face to face with A DAVE! Stepping back, you see he’s followed by the noisy coven of witches, pack of zombies, minion and green man. Strangely they’re all holding handmade brooms, but you don’t stay to ask as your feet take you to the nearest street. Your breathing steadies as you recount the ordeal, thinking how lovely the spot where you woke would be in the day and promise you’ll return in the sunshine.
However, now on the street your met with something far more terrifying, your blood re-curdles as you notice the light blue clad of MANCHESTER CITY FANS!!!
Thank you to everyone who came to our Halloween event, we had a lot of fun making our broom brooms, hearing the tales of Hannah Beswick and catching the last few bats that are yet to hibernate.
See you about,
Alex, FOMV
